It was an early spring day. I skipped to my mailbox. “Junk, bills, advertisements…” I thought and carried the mail inside. Then something caught my eye. It was a red letter. I ripped it open and read: Please come to Scarlet’s 10th birthday. “Wow! That is today!” I said as I ran to my mother’s room. “Aren’t you getting ready to go to the play?” Mom said. “What play?” I said, shocked. “The one your uncle is performing in” Mom said. I flipped open the letter and showed it to her. She stared at it for a long time. “Sweetie, you can’t go.” Mom said. “Scarlet’s birthday is at 6 o’clock tonight, and the play is at 5 o’clock.” “But I want to go to Scarlet’s party,” I said. “No. Now get ready” Mom said. |
